So nice to meet you, we're Portland Design Works

We are a small team of cyclists who create beautiful, simple gear for everyday cycling. Since 2008, we've been developing gear that inspires cyclists to get out and ride. We design our products to be unique, memorable, and enhance the beauty of the bikes they are installed on. We donate at least 1% of our top-line revenue to nonprofit organizations that promote cycling in their communities.

Design Philosophy: Quality

We use durable materials built to last, and keep hundreds of small replacement parts in stock so you can easily repair your gear and keep it rolling, ride after ride.

Design Philosophy: Aesthetics

We design PDW products to be charming and memorable. In addition to its primary purpose, our gear serves to enhance the beauty of the bikes it’s installed on. Check out the unique shape and bamboo accents on the Everyday Rack, the classic vibe of the King of Ding Bell, and the simple contours of the Bodega Basket.

Design Philosophy: FUN

Lastly, but most importantly, we keep it fun! Having fun is why we ride bicycles - plain and simple. We design our gear for fun through playful designs like our whimsical bottle cages, silly product names like Bar-ista Cup Holder, Power Stance Kickstand, and Cork Chop Grips, and developing some goods that are just for decoration, like the Zit Bitz.

These fenders are awesome!! I have never been sure about adding fenders and even thought I might only put them on for touring. But they're on and never coming off. Install was pretty straightforward, though I needed the under-bridge hanger bracket...wish I had figured that out before ordering. But that was a tiny hiccup. They work great and don't rattle. I highly recommend them!

I have installed mine, 700x55 full metal fenders on an XL Kona Rove DL with 700 wheels. They included all the hardware I needed and then some, which is extremely comforting. I appreciated the addition of sticker-based noise-reduction. I have ridden several times, and made a few small adjustments as expected after the first ride, but they were pretty solid right away. I think it's really solid that the struts are metal, and you simply trim them with a saw to length. A premium product, i'm hoping the last time I buy fenders.

I installed the PDW Full Metal Fenders on my gravel/all-road bike and I’m officially that person now—the one who secretly hopes for rain just to justify their gear choices. These fenders are rock solid, beautifully finished, and feel like they were designed by people who actually ride bikes in bad weather. The construction is top-notch: real metal, clean bends, no flimsy nonsense. Once installed, they’re completely silent—no rattles, no flex, no mysterious ticking sounds that make you question your life choices mid-ride. For my setup, I ran a larger front fender with a 42mm front tire, which does an incredible job keeping water, grit, and road spray off my feet and drivetrain. In the rear, I paired a slightly smaller fender with a 38mm rear tire, and the coverage is still excellent while keeping everything looking tidy. Translation: my back stays clean and my bike still looks fast(ish). Installation was refreshingly straightforward. My frame has an eyelet under the brake bridge, and once I had the correct hanger, the rear fender fit perfectly. Everything lined up cleanly, with plenty of clearance for gravel and mixed terrain. ⚠️ Important pro tip for ordering: If your bike has a braze-on eyelet under the brake bridge, be sure to request a free rear hanger. This detail is mentioned on the product page but not at checkout, so make sure you add it in the order notes. PDW included it for me, and it made installation smooth and drama-free—just how we like it. For fellow Marin Gestalt 2.0 owners: a couple of the included bolts weren’t quite the right length for my frame. No big deal—I made a quick trip to Harbor Freight, grabbed the right bolts, and was back in business in minutes. Minor hiccup, zero stress. I also have to give a huge shoutout to PDW’s customer support. Communicating with Chris Smitherman was beyond helpful and extremely responsive. He clearly knows bikes, knows fitment, and genuinely wants customers to end up happy. That kind of support is rare—and very appreciated. Bottom line: these fenders look great, perform even better, and make riding in wet conditions something I’m actually looking forward to. Can’t wait for the next rainstorm. Highly recommended for anyone running wider tires who wants full coverage without sacrificing style. — Would absolutely buy again ☔️🚴‍♂️

Great fenders, you can absolutely fly through puddles and mud and protect yourself and your bike from crud! Just wish they included some more hardware for the price. I needed the next size up metric bolts to attach to my frame and also would have been really happy to have the vertical attachment for the front fork included.

The 700x55 is working well for gravel rides on a Topstone alloy frame with 700x44 tires. They keep the bike fairly clean. I catch a little spray from the shins down, but stay clean and dry from the shins up. I spent an hour or two getting the installation the way I like but I am very happy with the results. I might add a second brace to the front fender to keep it from shaking in rough sections, but it is not bad with just the one brace.

Fits my Dual sport 2 very well. The reason it's 4 and not 5 is the front fender needed to have a small 90 degree stainless steel bracket to make it work. It would be nice to have the mounts that come with it have a 90 degree for different types of forks.

It took me a couple of hours and I’ve had to cut all of the stays to make the fenders fit on my long tail but I am very pleased with the results. The fenders are beautiful, rattle free and coverage is excellent. Now I’m ready for winter commutes, thank you.

These are amazing. Capable, sturdy, with wonderful instructions. I cant believe they were as perfect for my bike, which had little clearance to work with, as they were. Ya love to see it.

Just installed. I do not own a bike without fenders. Decided on the PDW because they look the sturdiest on the market. I especially liked the double stays on the rear fender - more in a bit. I am 58. Previous fenders have lasted me 10+ years and probably longer. I am hoping that these will be the ONLY set I purchase for this bike! I am already aware that because they are aluminum they are less "forgiving" to random "catches". Hopefully this is not an issue but there is a learning curve for me. Two mods: First, I switched the front and rear flaps - the front one now makes contact with a curb if I ride over one but on a different bike I installed a LARGE flap which came within 10 cm of the ground - possibly closer - and was THRILLED with how dry my feet and drivetrain stayed in nasty riding conditions. (I may yet modify and switch out that flap - it is 28cmx16cm - and install it on these fenders!) Second, I mounted the second stay to the lowest set of holes - for the flap - for two reasons. First, so I could mount my micro-light on the other set - without having to drill MORE holes! - and second, on the hope that this will increase stability. I was NOT able to secure the fender to the frame at the stay-bridge because of clearance issues on the bike - KONA I'm commenting to you, too - but WAS able to attach the fender at the bottom bracket stay bridge with an M5 flathead bolt. Because I made these modifications AFTER I had installed the fenders I had already used the "anti-rattle" stickers. No biggy. I used a piece of electrical tape and it will be easy enough to insert a small piece of innertube at the contact points if there is an issue. So far, no rattles! Stay safe out there, peeps! (Riding in Ontario, Canada!)

I was looking for a good set of fenders for my touring bike and came across the PDW 700x55 full metal fenders. I ordered from PDW and received the fenders in just a few days. The quality of the fenders is very good and they are strong but not too heavy. I really liked that all the attachments came with hardware so modifications were easy. I cut the struts so I could connect them to the front and rear racks on my bike. I also cut the rear fender a bit shorter so that I can wheel my bike up vertically on the rear wheel for times when I need to maneuver into tight space or get past a car in my garage. Overall, these fenders are worth the price and work great. Good job, PDW, on your design!

This was my first time installing fenders and the process was pretty straight forward. They are very solid and rattle free during my short test ride. They look super nice on my Space Horse as well!

Have these on my "do everything" Seven, and I couldn't be happier. Secure, keeps me clean and dry and provides sufficient clearance to ride on all of my chosen gravel roads (I'm running 700x44 tubeless tires). Oh, and they look sweet!

Customer photo review of Full Metal Fenders - 700x55

The installation was straight forward. However, the rear fender took several hours to adjust to get a proper fit. The main problem was that the rear fender vertical stay needs to be 1/2" longer to reach the mounting holes on the frame of the bicycle. I installed the fenders on a 2021 TREK Verve II bicycle with 700c-45mm tires. After spending several hours re-adjusting the fender mounts I was only able to achieve getting the stay into 1/4" into the eyelet. The clearance between the fender and tire is slightly less than the 10mm recommended by the manufacturer. Because the stay tips are not up into the eyelet the joint still flexes after tightening. The tips of the stays need to be at least 1/2" to 3/4" (not 1/4") into the eyelet so that the joint doesn't flex. My concern is that the stay will eventually separate under normal use from the eyelets.

Store owner replied: Hi Ronald, Thanks for your great review! Unfortunately the rear stays are turning out to be too short for a quite a few folks, that has been an issue with this new size. Going forward we are including the longer rear stay with orders that ship from us directly. Our customer service team will be contacting you about getting you a longer replacement free of charge. We hope you love the fenders otherwise!

Love em! Nice fenders and quality mounting hardware. Hopefully this helps motivate me to ride all year!

The documentation made this the easiest full fender install I've ever had. It took me only slightly more time than taking the old stock fenders off. The work extremely well. I just finished biking home in the first rainstorm of the season and my feet were the driest they've ever been. The hardware bolts down snug and keeps things from rattling even when I am on gravel roads and the clean lines make my bike look a lot more stylish than before. I don't expect I'll need to replace them any time soon, but if they ever did get damaged beyond repair, I wouldn't hesitate to order a second set.

Full Metal Fenders - 700x55

The installation was relatively simple on my gravel bike, just needed some wire cutters to trim the stays. Also, they're solid once installed and don't rattle. The long length also provides very good coverage. The reason for only 3-stars is I've found the design with the flat middle and limited side overhang allows quite a bit of water/debris to splatter from the sides of the fenders onto the fork, seat stays and my legs, which partly defeats the purpose of having fenders. I think this flaw would be remedied if PDW used the more traditional rounded shape for the body of these fenders.

Full Metal Fenders - 700x55

Love the look of these and trust them to do the job as long as they stay in place! Took me a long minute to install the rear fender. The rear stays are just too short and I have my doubts about them staying in place. In hindsight, might have been better to have my LBS do the installation, but what's done is done and not sure what they could have done differently to account for the rear stays being too short.
