This basket, if it could mount on my Nitto bars, would solve two problems: a place to mount my generator-powered headlight where the beam is not blocked by my fender, and a place to hang my lock that frees up a side of my rack. To my regret, it can't be solidly mounted.
My handlebars (and most Nittos) have a center flare so they're thicker where the stem clamps to them, tapering from 25mm to 22mm across 1.25" on each side from the clamp. That is where this basket needs to mount, and it means that its brackets can't grab solidly, each one grabbing at only a single point.
I had to return the basket. When at your shop, I asked the person who helped me if she could suggest to your designers that you offer an alternative version for this kind of bar. She pulled out a Bodega basket. It's wider, but the spacing of the mounting brackets is identical, so it could not work, either.
I need a variation where the mounting brackets are several inches further from the center. That new basket would not work on bikes the existing version fits, but it would make these really nice baskets available to all of us riding Rivendells. We pretty much all got Nitto bars with our builds.

My bike went from normal to bada$$! Great product. Love it!

Bag insert leaks horribly, and fills with water. I had it folded securely and closed properly. It sat perfectly horizontal while my bike sat in its Saris Cycle-On Two tray of the hitch rack.
All my chain tools, papers, and bike tools were submerged after only a 20-minute moderate rain. The Portland bag leaked so badly and filled-up with so much water the tools in a Zip-Lock freezer bag had to be removed and dried.
Pretty darn expensive for NOT being even moderately water resistent. I ditched the Portland bag and installed a truly waterproof Orrlieb pannier WATERPROOF bag which rates 5 of 5 stars!
Caution - the Portland bag insert WILL NOT keep anything dry!

I've had this rack so long I forgot where I got it... then I remembered Portland Design Works when I was shopping for a new rack for my kids bike. A quick keyword search and viola! Got a Bodega Basket for him and will continue rocking the Takout Basket for my Fairdale. Solid equipment built to last.

Very nice addition to my bike. The basket is such a sweet design. I think it’s more functional and aesthetically pleasing than any other on the market. I’m about to go to the grocery store and buy a gallon of milk which will easily fit in there. Thanks!

I purchased this basket after searching for a basket that wasn’t a shopping cart. This fits what I was looking for perfectly. Because of my hand brakes on my Trek Verve 2 I can’t have it as level as I would’ve liked. So it has a slight tilt to it but that’s ok. The quality is great. It is a solidly built basket and I love the wooden plaque. I opted to not get the bag that comes with it and instead bought a kånken mini.

This basket is fantastic! I just love how it looks and performs on my Electra Townie. I will admit when I first saw it in person, I thought it was too small but I’ve since come around to thinking that it’s perfect. The bag holds quite a bit of stuff and even when fully loaded, it’s so securely held in place with the thoughtfully designed buckles that there’s no fear of losing anything. The bike lock holder is just a “chefs kiss” brilliant touch. I will advise anyone who purchases this basket to watch PDW’s video on attaching it because I didn’t and it was a little hard to get everything lined up, especially the crossbar that prevents the basket from tilting. Other than that, I cannot praise this little basket enough! It’s so sturdy and tough, yet unobtrusive and really just a cool basket!

I've been rocking the basket and bag for a little while now and really love it. Actually holds quite a bit and I've used it to hold a variety of items at different times: muffins, fruits, veggies, snacks, small electronics, books, small takeout lunch and dinner, bottles of Jun Kombucha and even a couple of plants I picked up on the way home a few times. It has more than paid for itself in use and value. Thanks for a great accessory that I like almost as much as my bike.

I have this basket on my commuter, and love it but am having trouble finding a front light to mount to it... anyone have any ideas?

...bought this basket as soon as i saw it......works really well.....my only wish is that it be 3 inches deeper(top to bottom) and 2 inches wider across......overall solid sturdy design......agree with a previous reviewer very practical......

I love this sturdy basket for trips to the store and post office. The included bag is waterproof which is great but it also keeps item cold on short trips. I was worried that weight on the handlebars would make steering difficult but I have not found that at all. I like being able to keep my eye on the things in the basket. Very well made!

I'll follow up in a few months time, but so far (about a week comprising 10-12 rides) I love this thing. I needed to detach and readjust my brake handles and cables to fit it on my old Trek 930. I imagine this might be a bigger (and perhaps insurmountable) issue on other bikes and for other people. I used the little shallow-u-shaped bracket (included) to ensure that it doesn't sag, and this thing is solidly on there. The little semi-insulated bag is ideal for lunches and snacks. And personally I think it looks great.

Although it's expensive compared to a lot of alternatives I find it worth it. It's just the right size and I can take my handlebar bag off my other bike and slide it in, and my camera bag fits in perfectly instead. Mine doesn't drop any and it provides a nice place to mount my light. I'd give it another star if putting my u-lock in the holder didn't result in so much rattling though I do intend to try it at some point with some sort of sound padding.
It's also light, and well made.

I'd been thinking about getting a front mounting basket for a while because, even if I wasn't picking up something from the store that was big, I'd end up driving if it was too awkward to tie down on my rear rack, read: a 6 pack of beer. On a short riding time trip, I'd spend ten minutes using bungee cords to strap stuff down, only to turn around every 20 feet to make sure it hadn't fallen off. I also wanted something that wasn't girly looking, so this fit the bill. It's great to just plop stuff in there, and it's probably already paid for itself in gas money saved. It looks good. It's light weight. You are limited to the amount of stuff you can put in it, but I had a half a gallon of milk and a few other things thrown in there and it didn't buckle under the weight, so it's sturdy when mounted. That being said, it's not quite as easy to get the basket mounted on your handlebars as the instructions might lead you to believe. There's only a handful of nuts, bolts and washers, but the nuts are self locking so you have to twist them pretty hard - while the basket is falling down. An extra set of hands would be helpful. Also 2 of the bolts were just slightly shorter than the others which I didn't realize until I had it fully installed. So I started over for aesthetic reasons. All in all, well worth the price.

I have this on my touring bike, and really like it. It is a bit heavier than some front bags, but I wanted something that didn't have a plastic mounting system. I can really load up the bag, and not worry at all about the mount failing.
On smooth roads, I can have the bag just velcroed shut, and get easy access to maps/camera/snacks while riding. When things get rough, the bottom strap on the bag keeps it from flying out of the rack, and the roll down top keeps everything in the bag.

This is a well-designed, high quality piece that feels right at home on my handlebars. There's a dedicated slot that fits even my beefy Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboutit lock, and a threaded eyelet on the left-hand side for my light mount--which I needed since the valuable handlebar real estate on my northroad handlebars was used up for the basket mounts. Furthermore, the bag that comes with this basket is high quality fabric and stitching, black in color, and boasting a gorgeous blue interior. It has a velcro roll-top and is secured to the basket with straps & clips on either side. I love this basket!
